The brother’s character dynamics are well sketched. The older brother is responsible and guilt-ridden, the second brother is practical and giving, and the third brother is hot-headed and protective. They each react to her jump in different ways, and you can see how their futures would have gone wrong in the past life. I hope we get to see more of their individual arcs now that Gu Jia Ning is on a better path. The third brother beating up Wen Zhiqing is a great start, but I want to see them all thrive.
I’m curious how Lin Du’s gender will play into the wider story. The author mentioned that the cultivation world doesn’t distinguish gender in titles, and Lin Du was mistaken for a boy early on. Will that come up again? Will she use that ambiguity to her advantage in the sect? I hope the story doesn’t just gloss over it, because it feels like a meaningful detail.
