After escaping, they find a "portal" that sucks them in. That's the second teleportation device in the story already. It feels like the author is throwing in sci-fi tropes without explanation. The portal leads straight to He Man Village, which is incredibly convenient. I almost rolled my eyes. But the contrast between the grassland and the village was well-done, and it sets up the main location for the next part.
The captain's apology for the "pointless prank" isn't explicit, but his cooperation with the cooking feels like a peace offering. He listened to her complaint and then trusted her fully with the bird preparation. For a guy who looks like a bandit chief, he seems to be a fair and open-minded leader. He might tease her, but he doesn't dismiss her expertise.
The system in this novel is handled in a refreshing way. It's not a typical cheat system; it's more like a passive panel that doesn't give quests or rewards. The attribute system with six stats (Physique, Strength, Wisdom, Agility, Spirit, Charisma) is pretty standard, but the Faith Value mechanic adds a layer of complexity. The fact that Mark's Faith Value is 0/100 after the job-change and that he can't rely on Holy Light for advancement creates a real obstacle. The special status "Holy Light Aversion (Deceptive)" is especially intriguing. It suggests the unknown being is tricking or hiding something. I'm curious how skills will be unlocked.
The translation overall feels readable but sometimes stilted. Phrases like "sinister thoughts entangled with the original soul" sound a bit off. It's not bad enough to kill immersion, but I can tell this wasn't originally written in English. Some expressions could be smoothed out.
I don’t like Su Qing as a villain so far. She’s just a two-dimensional gold digger with no nuance. Even in a revenge story, the antagonist should have some depth. Right now she’s just a cardboard cutout for Lin Feng to hate. Hope she gets some development later.
