The author seems to be having fun writing this, and that energy transfers to the reader. Even with the rough edges, it’s an enjoyable ride.
The details about the wet nurse are creepy. Feeding a newborn mind-calming pills? That would drug the baby and make her sleep too much, potentially affecting development. It’s a terrifying form of abuse. Wen Jiayue’s decision to keep her daughter close even if it means no evidence is a realistic trade-off. I hope she catches the wet nurse in the act soon and gets rid of her. The suspense about this plot point is effective; I’m eager to see how she handles it.
Chu Qingcheng's backstory wrecked me. Her whole family was killed by corrupt officials, and she was almost sold to a brothel. Her deciding to warm Sun Jian's bed out of gratitude felt genuine and sad. It makes me root for her revenge arc.
I'm curious about the movie class and interstellar life class she added. The fact that she admits she doesn't fully understand interstellar life culture because the original owner was forced to leave Emperor Star too quickly is interesting. She's basically figuring things out as she goes, using online research and her blue star kindergarten experience.
