Let’s appreciate the “reading experience” of this novel. It’s exactly the kind of thing you read on a lazy afternoon with snacks. The chapters are not too long, the font is readable (in the TXT), and the dialogue keeps you engaged. The emotional beats are there but not overwhelming. I cried a little at the part where the older women sacrifice themselves, but then Xiang Ying’s snark brings me back. The binge-ability is high. If I had more chapters, I’d stay up all night. The only thing that breaks immersion is the occasional translation hiccup, like “vagina torn apart” which is a bit too graphic and medical-sounding. But it’s from a Chinese novel, so context is expected. Overall, great entertainment.
The matchmaker's thought process about Gu Jia Ning's beauty is a nice bit of world building. In a village, a girl's reputation is tied to her appearance and moral behavior. Gu Jia Ning is known as a beauty, but her behavior with Wen Zhiqing has tainted that. The matchmaker sees the beauty but also the gossip. It adds a layer to the social pressures. Gu Jia Ning not only has to fix her personal life but also her reputation.
The whole "second-run player" theory about Tu Kun is interesting. Maybe he's a beta tester, a game dev, or someone else who has been through this nightmare before. His familiarity with the axe and the lack of hesitation suggests he has prior knowledge. I hope this is a plot thread that gets explored, because it's a huge mystery.
I'm curious about how the game will evolve. Lu Ze mentioned other game ideas flashing through his mind after the Temple Run adaptation. The potential for multiple games connected to cultivation is enormous. Imagine a dating simulator for building faction relationships or a strategy game for managing sect resources. The possibilities are intriguing.
The way Wang Xuan gains attribute points and allocates them is straightforward. +30 kilograms of strength per point, which is huge. But since his starting strength was pathetic (70 kg), it brings him to a normal adult level. Reasonable so far.
