The character of the older brother Gu Yunting is very sympathetic. He feels guilty. He offers his job. He is the eldest and feels responsible. In the past life, that guilt was exploited. In this life, Gu Jia Ning's apology might free him. I hope their relationship is repaired. He seems like a good man.
I love the worldbuilding hook with "Adventure Broadcasts." It’s such a clever way to integrate a modern streaming concept into a fantasy world without it feeling forced. The idea that top parties need dedicated broadcast staff, and that role was always dumped on Euc in Thunder Pike, explains so much about his former party’s dynamic. They saw his work as trivial, but the story makes it clear it’s a vital, specialized skill.
The opening scene with spiritual energy detection and twin fighting is one of the most creative beginnings I’ve seen in cultivation novels. It immediately sets stakes and personality. The desperation of feeling life force drain while her brother thrashes is genuine. The fact that Mu Fenghua’s first action is violence rather than fear shows her agency. I’m drawn to her confidence and resourcefulness. The brother’s eventual submission feels earned through this constant pressure.
One small nitpick: how did Lin Youzhi get a gun and a secret stash? The story explains he does construction and is connected, but a loaded pistol in the study? This implies he was already involved in some shady stuff. Good set-up for a flashback or character depth. Maybe he was in on the alien threat already?
The scene where Old Madam Fu worries that Jiang Zao might get tired and leave was surprisingly human. Instead of being an evil mother-in-law, she’s terrified of losing the only person who can keep her son calm. Her solution? Throw more shares and money at the problem. That’s both funny and a little sad. Fu Yinhe’s suggestion that Jiang Zao isn’t happy at Xia Corporation and Old Madam Fu’s instant “let her come to Fu Corp” response shows how desperate the family is.
