The physical humor in the prose is consistently good. Lines like “I tapped the wall of my room with my fist. With a crunch, a beautiful crack appeared in the wall.” delivered completely straight are my favorite type of writing. The way violence is described as “beautiful” or “glorious” reinforces the skewed priorities of this world’s Tzerubark culture. Darkly funny.
The "Rapid Enlightenment" cheating seems to turn Zeng Anmin into a super detective, which is fun but also a bit implausible. He goes from being a confused rich kid to solving a complex conspiracy in minutes? It might be a stretch, but I'll accept it for the sake of the plot. Plus, it makes the story move faster.
I love A Ying's character design. She's not the typical beautiful, flawless best friend; she's described as dark-skinned, poorly dressed, and childish-faced, but with an unstoppable spirit. The bamboo sword is such a good visual motif. She represents a kind of freedom that the protagonist envies. Their friendship feels equal—neither one is just a sidekick. They both rescue each other, physically and emotionally.
1 Qiao Rong’s plan to pair Fu Beijun with Song Ranran to save herself is… naive. It’s cute that she thinks she can outsmart the plot, but it’s obviously going to backfire. The romance with the female lead is super complicated. I’m already predicting that her meddling will somehow make things worse or put her in the crosshairs of Qin Zui even sooner.
The copper smelting experiment failing was dramatic. The furnace cracking and erupting with hot ore, people getting injured—that was a good consequence. Chen Dian's speech about not giving up was a bit preachy but fitting for his character. It shows that progress is hard. But the author then jumps to "after a few days they prepare again", skipping the repair and recovery. I wanted to see more of the aftermath.
The system where Jiang Ning levels up by reading is a neat twist on the usual cultivation grind. It feels earned, not handed out, and makes you curious what happens when literacy maxes out. The fact that he’s stuck in a poor family with no savings grounds the whole setup in reality, so his progress actually matters in a dangerous world.
