The ending of the provided portion where Cedric disappears and Liang He ties her hair back and goes after him leaves such a good hook. It makes me want to know if he returns on his own or if she has to track him down. The confidence in her step says she knows she’ll find him. That quiet assertiveness makes me admire her even more as a character.
The emotional range of the story so far is wide but shallow. We have anger, sorrow, shock, and joy, but they all happen very quickly. The breakup is sad, then he’s angry, then he’s shocked by the phone, then he’s happy about the elixirs. There’s no lingering sadness or true heartbreak. The characters react and then the plot moves on. For a story that starts with such a personal tragedy (the breakup), I feel like the emotional impact is rushed over in favor of action and magic. I want to feel Lin Feng’s pain more before he gets powers to solve all his problems.
The whole Truth or Dare scene was such a train wreck but I couldn't look away. Qin Qianqian volunteering to play dare and then specifically choosing to wear Shen Yan's jacket?? That's not innocent game behavior, that's straight up shady. I was yelling at my screen.
Lu Ye’s response to being sent to the servant quarters is what a realistic cultivator would do. He doesn’t throw a tantrum or threaten anyone; he just accepts it and focuses on his cultivation. That levelheadedness is rare in protagonists, and I respect it. The thought about “if I become the Azure Emperor” shows he’s not just meek—he’s biding his time. This patience is going to pay off big when he eventually catches up to the Jiang family. It also makes his character more relatable because he’s not invincible from the start; he has to work around obstacles.
I love how the summoning scene plays out — Hashirama’s cheerful “Look how cute it is!” and then Tobirama immediately trying to stab Kozō with a water needle. That contrast perfectly captures the brothers’ personalities. The tension is real, and Kozō’s internal panic about being killed by Tobirama is really relatable. You can feel his fear.
2 I was surprised Hu An just vanished after the early conversation. For being the “best friend,” he has very little presence. I wonder if he’ll come back later or if this was just a device to show Shen Xing’s isolation. If he disappears forever, that’s a wasted emotional anchor. I hope he returns when Shen Xing climbs high enough that the class gap changes their dynamic.
I'm curious about how Shuo's "healing" ability will work with Wu Xie. The cat seems to have some power to improve moods through touch, but it's subtle. Will it be enough to change the tragic trajectories we know from the books?
I was so surprised when Clementina and Daphne didn’t run away in fear after the water pitcher incident but instead became disciples begging to learn the “essence of strength.” That subversion was perfect. It shows that Isabella’s insane charisma actually works on the weak-willed followers. Now they’re running laps in dresses, and it’s the kind of chaotic raising sim I didn’t know I needed.
Tadano’s cowardice is played for laughs but also makes logical sense. He has no combat skills, no weapons, and basic survival needs. His refusal to accept quests isn’t just comic relief – it’s a rational response to being defenceless. The story treats his fear seriously, which makes me root for him even more.
The author's note at the beginning cracked me up. "I am fictional, a power fantasy, and if you don't like it, feel free to leave" – that's the kind of honesty I appreciate. I went in expecting over-the-top cultivation action and that's exactly what I got. No false pretense of being deep literature. Good. This made me lower my expectations and just enjoy the ride.
