The small restaurant setting feels cozy and familiar. The way the boss comes out to serve dishes and jokes about the fortune telling is very slice-of-life. It balances the more dramatic elements. I could imagine this being a regular spot for Wu Yin if she ever gets stable. Maybe she’ll become a regular there and the boss will become a recurring character.
I’m a bit confused about the rules of Huihui’s powers. She makes mud balls and they have effects? She mentions “medicine medicine” and it seems to wake people up or knock them out. But do they only work when she says the right words? And why mud? Does she need dirt?
The introduction of the nuclear bomb announcement over the radio was shocking. They straight up say "Big Bear City confirmed fallen, nuclear bomb will be dropped June 16th." No warning, just radio static and a death sentence. Bai Mu's thought about "martial ethics" made me chuckle despite the horror. Thorne's grim reaction and his determination to find a vaccine despite the ticking clock set up a clear objective. It also raises the stakes from just escaping zombies to escaping an impending nuclear explosion.
