The fact that El banned him from magic class makes total sense from her perspective. She just sees a suicidal toddler blowing himself up. But from Lute's point of view, it's the only path he has. That conflict in perspective is really well written.
The Small Revitalizing Pill description stood out to me. "Increase the proficiency of any martial art by ten years." That's a solid reward for a white-tier pull. It makes me wonder what the higher-tier rewards are going to look like. Gold or red tier? Must be insane.
I really appreciate how the story doesn't make Meru a complete damsel in distress. Yes, she's weak in combat and magic, but she's incredibly resourceful. She knows her herbs, she can cook, she can make tools out of leaves. Within a day, she's already improving the entire squad's morale by making them a decent meal. She's proving her worth in a way that a magic spell never could.
Wow, I have to say, the premise of this story is quite intriguing! The combination of what are essentially two overused genres has been woven together in a way that feels refreshingly unique. It’s impressive to see an author take familiar elements and craft something new and engaging. However, I’m giving it a four-star rating for now because it’s still in the early stages of development. While the potential is definitely there, it remains to be seen whether the plot and character development will sustain this initial promise. That said, I’m genuinely enjoying what I’ve read so far, and I would definitely recommend it to others who are looking for something different. I'm excited to see how this unfolds in the future!
There’s a weird, aching beauty in the suffering. The description of the watermelon field at night is gorgeous: “The night was like a woven tapestry.” It contrasts so harshly with the ugliness happening right in the middle of that beautiful frame. The author has a great eye for that juxtaposition, letting beauty and violence coexist in the same scene.
Yi Qianqian confidently saying she'd rather sleep on the street than live with him, then immediately calling a friend to stay with... relatable queen. She has backup plans. I love that she doesn't just passively accept the situation. She's stubborn and resourceful, even if she's broke.
