2 The mother, Guo Zhenbao, saying “it’s okay if you don’t study” is hilarious and sad. It shows how spoiled Qiao Rong is, but it also shows the parents’ low expectations. That moment when our Qiao Rong decides to study hard is actually a big character beat. She’s trying to change her fate not just by hiding from Fu Beijun, but by improving herself.
There's something genuinely moving about Lu Ze's discovery that he can gain Demonic Path Value through game deaths instead of actual killing. His realization that "sustainable development is the most important thing" while planning to torture people through games is darkly comedic but also shows he's trying to find a way to exist with this murderous system.
I really liked the opening scene with Pangu splitting the Chaos and creating heaven and earth. The description of his body turning into mountains and rivers gave me chills. It was dramatic and epic, exactly what you'd want from a primordial myth retelling. I especially liked the detail about the Profound Yellow Qi wrapping the newborn world to protect it. That felt like a nice explanation for why the world doesn't just collapse after he dies. But I gotta say, the way the Chaos Bead just sat there unscathed while everything else shattered? That hooked me immediately. Makes you wonder what's so special about that bead.
Overall, this is a solid start to a litrpg kingdom builder. The writing has some rough edges, but the character and system are compelling. I’m looking forward to seeing Black Pine Ridge develop. I hope the author keeps the tension high and doesn’t let Rhode snowball too fast.
The description of Beo's features—waist-length jet-black hair, handsome but still youthful, shirtless with scars, well-defined muscles, simple military pants—gives a very distinct visual. It's easy to picture him. I also like that he's not described as overly handsome but has "exceptionally infectious" smile and confidence. That makes him charismatic without being a self-insert perfect character. The contrast with the grizzled, scarred veterans on the ship makes him stand out more as the fresh rookie. The scars from his past before Roger imply he's already had some rough life, which adds depth to his backstory. I hope we learn more about his childhood training or adventures with Old Gekko.
