The green-skinned creatures with huge eyes popped out of nowhere. Their design is straight out of a generic alien movie. But the one screaming and making the others retreat was weird—like it's a leader? The escape using a stone to distract them was creative but also lucky. Not sure if the author planned that or just needed to get the characters to the next plot point. Tension was okay though.

As a start to a novel, this is a home run. It perfectly hits the "divorced husband is actually a hidden supreme being" fantasy. The writing is punchy, the drama is high, and the action is flashy. I am 100% hooked and already looking at my screen for the next chapter button that doesn't exist.
