Chen Chengduo’s team banter is a breath of fresh air after all the doom and gloom. Li Hui joking about the boss’s battle pet being a dinosaur, Suo Bin seriously considering an elephant—it adds personality to what could have been just generic tough‑guy survivors. And the bit about Shi Rui and his crocodile being similar in personality is a nice touch. It makes me want to see more of their dynamics.
Lu Xi’an’s honesty about his poor marksmanship is refreshing. Most protagonists would be instantly skilled, but he admits he wasted three boxes of ammo on two hyenas. It makes his eventual cooperation with Yao Wei feel more grounded—he needs her skill as much as she needs his support.
One thing that bugs me: why did the voice in his mind get weaker when the mist thinned? And why did it want him out so badly? I'm guessing the bone sea itself is some kind of trial or factory for producing skeletons. Maybe it's a giant entity or a natural phenomenon. I hope the author reveals more later because that mystery is a big hook.
The decision to set the language back to Human Language just to understand Latifa's scream of terror was a small but impactful narrative choice. It shows that the protagonist cares about communication, not just combat. She could have kept it on Goblin Language and ignored the woman, but she didn't. That says a lot about her character.
