Lin Mu, known as “Fifteen” or “Aunt Fifteen” in the village, is the most famous midwife for ten villages around Lingsheng. She is the mother of Lin Pingshan and Lin Pingchuan. When her second grandson was born with strange eyes and a cold body, she kept her composure and used her experience to identify the problem. Deeply superstitious, she performed rituals: lighting twelve sandalwood incense sticks to summon the Lin ancestors for protection, throwing the placenta as a decoy, and preparing a patchwork robe from one hundred pieces of children’s clothing. She also sought help from Mo Sangu and Grandfather Huang. She is authoritative, resourceful, and fiercely determined to save her grandson even at the cost of her own life.
