Lin Pingchuan is a young, hardworking fisherman from Lingsheng Village in Min Land. He is the second son of Lin Mu and the husband of Chen Yan. On the night of the Winter Solstice, as his wife struggled with a prolonged labor, he paced anxiously outside their mud‑brick house, unable to calm himself. When his newborn son was threatened by supernatural forces, he seized a cleaver and swore to protect the child even at the cost of his own life. Following his mother’s instructions, he carried the baby’s umbilical cord and placenta into the courtyard and threw them over the wall as a decoy, then stood guard all night. He is deeply attached to his family, respects his mother, and expresses his love through protective actions.
