Ning Lang is the elder brother of Ning Nuan, the eldest son of the First Branch. He is characterized as carefree and somewhat irresponsible, often skipping school and indulging in leisure activities. He is good to his siblings but not attentive to the family's struggles. He spends his monthly allowance quickly and relies on his mother's subsidies. At the story's beginning, he buys a myna bird and a box of rouge for his sister, unaware of the tensions. Under Mother Ning's new discipline, he faces stricter treatment and is warned to study properly.
