The old Daoist priest is a background figure in Shi Ran's fabricated history. According to Shi Ran's story, after her family was attacked when she was six, her parents sent her away and entrusted her to this old Daoist priest. He forbade her from leaving the mountain for fear that the enemies would target her. He passed away three years before the story begins, after which Shi Ran left the mountain to explore the world. This story is used by Shi Ran to explain her background and special bloodline to Zhang Qiling.
