Shen Yu is the male protagonist, the Grand General of the borderlands who initially goes undercover as a commoner named Achai to infiltrate bandits. He is strong, handsome, and a skilled warrior, able to fight one against many. He is strategic and ruthless in battle but has a soft side; he protects his soldiers and gradually develops feelings for Wen Wan. He teases her and eventually reveals his identity as the Grand General. He is determined to recover a lost blueprint and protect the Duan Dynasty from Mobei forces.
