Ya Po is an elderly woman placed in the courtyard to look after Wen Wan. She is kind and attentive, constantly offering food and care. She misunderstands Wen Wan’s nausea as pregnancy and alerts others. She cannot speak (mute) but communicates through gestures. She is devoted to Wen Wan and the General’s orders.
