Xiao Jingfan is the male protagonist, the reigning Emperor Shun Guang, often called a tyrant by the common people due to his ruthless elimination of opposing imperial relatives. He is sharp, decisive, and possesses a formidable temper, but he deeply cares for his sister, the Princess. He has the unique ability to hear Chu Liuzheng's inner voice (her system-fed gossip), which he uses to uncover hidden truths and make informed decisions. He is quick to anger but can calm down upon hearing her thoughts. He is just in his own way: he punishes the corrupt prince consort and the wicked Madam Zhou, supports his sister's divorce against traditional opposition, and later acts on Chu Liuzheng's internal revelations about a poisoning plot. He is described as strikingly handsome, but his fierce demeanor intimidates everyone. He values efficiency and loyalty, and though he detests Chu Liuzheng's mental curses, he recognizes her usefulness and keeps her close.
