Uncle Master Lei Zhen is easily the most fun character in these chapters. He balances out the Master's severity beautifully. He is a tech nerd who gets genuinely excited about dinosaur genes. His boastfulness about the T-Rex armor is so cute and relatable. I hope the story keeps him around as a source of comic relief and exposition.
The farming metaphor of “Longevity Springs” is darkly hilarious. They’re literally being treated like livestock. Harvest their Lifespan, let them cultivate some more, then harvest again. It’s a great setup for a rebellion later. I’m expecting Lu Qing’an to somehow break free and maybe take down the Huang Family.
I wish the story had given more screen time to the mortal victims on the cloud ladder. The scholar and the plague woman had such tragic backstories but are dropped quickly. Maybe they’ll return as part of Li Fu’s army later? If she becomes the Ghost Fiends Lord, she could gather all these wronged souls. That would be epic.
The old master telling the little girl "do you hate your father" is such a weird and ominous line.
Xu Shanrou being blind but still described with such vivid, poetic detail—her “three thousand azure silks” and her deep, profound gaze—just hits different. It’s like her blindness makes her more perceptive in other ways, and that contrast between her fragile appearance and her quick, instinctive reactions later on during the fight makes her feel layered. I also love how she calls him “Little Jia Brother” with that soft, protective tone. Really makes you root for their dynamic from the get-go.
1 The space storing only non-living things is a nice limitation. It keeps the power from becoming too OP. I wonder if she’ll later find she can store something living or if it stays strict. That kind of restriction adds tension because you can’t just hide forever.
