Li Fu was a mortal woman married to Chen Xiao for three years. She managed his household and was filial to his parents, never wronging him. But Chen Xiao disappeared for a month and returned with a concubine, Hua Yue, a cultivator. When Li Fu's mother reprimanded Chen Xiao, Hua Yue used immortal methods to take her life. She then framed the Li family for corruption, forced Li Fu's kin to disown her, and killed anyone who tried to help—sixty-five people in total, including Li Fu's closest friend. Li Fu herself was skinned alive and had her bones removed, dying a gruesome death. Her soul sank into the Wangchuan, the river of vengeful spirits, where her resentment festered.

Refusing to let go of her past, Li Fu stubbornly climbed out of the Wangchuan. A mysterious man on the shore told her that her fate had been stolen by Hua Yue, a cultivator, and that in the mortal realm there was no justice against immortals. He sent her up the Cloud Ladder to the Nine Heavens, where cultivators presided over all realms. After an arduous climb that took decades, Li Fu finally reached the Nine Heavens Palace, where a grand feast was underway. She knelt before the elders and recounted every detail of her suffering, begging for justice.

But the elders were indifferent. The Fourth Elder, Hua Yue's master, sneered that mortals were trivial and that his disciple must have had a reason. Just then, the Great Elder announced that Hua Yue and Chen Xiao were the Chosen Ones predicted in an ancient prophecy, destined to save the cultivation world from the world‑ending tribulation. The elders immediately dismissed Li Fu’s grievance as a minor matter. Hua Yue waved her hand and flung Li Fu away, mocking her. The Great Elder declared everything settled: Li Fu’s climb earned her a wish, but her slander of the Chosen Ones canceled it out. She was cast out of the Nine Heavens.

Li Fu returned to the Wangchuan, despairing. There was no justice in the cultivation world. With the help of the mysterious man, she understood that the only way to obtain justice was to gain power. She sank into the Wangchuan and merged with its boundless resentment, becoming the Lord of Ghost Fiends. Instantly, the prophecy tablet in the Nine Heavens cracked, black qi coiled around it, and the world‑ending tribulation arrived. The elders panicked. Mahayana Venerables appeared and declared that the nascent Lord of Ghost Fiends must be killed early. They gave Hua Yue and Chen Xiao the red and blue Slaying Swords, forged over ten thousand years, to destroy the Lord of Ghost Fiends. The Venerables then vanished, leaving the cultivation world to face the tribulation.

Li Fu stood at the center of the churning Wangchuan, her scarlet eyes fixed on the Nine Heavens. She would give herself the justice she had been denied: she would make the Nine Heavens fall and erase the distinction between immortals and mortals. The cultivation world, now armed with the Chosen Ones and the destiny swords, prepared to hunt her down. But Li Fu had only begun her cultivation, and the conflict between her vengeful power and the immortals’ order was set to unfold. The story reaches this confrontation, with Li Fu’s transformation as the catalyst for the world‑ending tribulation and her ultimate goal of tearing down the unjust hierarchy of the Nine Heavens.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ I recently completed this captivating story, and I must say, the ending truly resonated with me on so many levels. It has been quite some time since I stumbled upon a narrative that combines simplicity with depth, steering clear of the typical clichés that often plague contemporary literature. The development of Li Fu as the protagonist was particularly compelling. Throughout the story, I found myself emotionally invested in his journey, and I couldn't help but shed tears during several poignant moments. The author's ability to evoke a sense of frustration, agony, and sadness within the other characters was remarkable. I was drawn into their world, feeling their resentment and their unyielding desire for justice with palpable intensity. While the conclusion left me with a sense of sadness, the additional chapters offered a comforting reprieve, allowing me to breathe easier after an emotional rollercoaster. Despite being a relatively new story with a modest number of views, it deserves to be discovered. I was so intrigued that I took the initiative to look it up eagerly. To my delight, I found that using Google Translate made the text quite accessible, and I was able to fully appreciate the nuances of this beautifully crafted tale. I wholeheartedly urge you to give this story a chance. Personally, I found it to be a refreshing experience, and it turned out to be significantly different from what I anticipated based solely on the title. It's a narrative that transcends superficial interpretations and dives deeper into the fabric of its characters and their struggles. I understand that its limited readership may deter some, but I implore you to look beyond that initial hesitation. This story is a hidden gem just waiting to be unearthed. Trust me, it offers a unique perspective that you won't want to miss out on. I highly recommend immersing yourself in this narrative; it's so much more than it initially appears.

The strongest part for me is how the author makes you feel Li Fu’s helplessness without being melodramatic. She doesn’t shout or cry excessively—she simply states facts, like “I was skinned alive, my bones removed.” The understatement makes it worse. And when she finally laughs hysterically, it’s earned. That’s the difference between good angst and cheap angst.

I’m genuinely torn about recommending this. The first part is a gripping tragedy that hooks you emotionally, but it’s also incredibly dark. If you’re sensitive to stories about injustice, manipulation, and helplessness, this might be too much. But if you like revenge arcs where the MC grows into a world-shaking threat, definitely read on. I’m hooked.

On the writing style, the English translation feels a bit stiff in places (“her voice quivering,” “he murmured”) but some lines are gorgeous, like “the Wangchuan water, causing ripples” or “her pitch-black pupils turned scarlet.” I can tell the original Chinese probably has even more poetic imagery. Good translation overall.

The emotional core of this story is the betrayal by those who should protect you. Li Fu trusted her husband, the legal system, even the immortals, and all failed her. That universal feeling of being let down by authority makes her revenge fantasy so cathartic. Everyone who’s ever felt powerless will root for her.
