Li Fu is the protagonist who suffered unbearable injustice. She was married to Chen Xiao for three years, managing his household and being filial to his parents. When Chen Xiao returned with a concubine Hua Yue, a cultivator, Hua Yue used immortal methods to kill her mother, frame the Li family, and cause the death of her close friend Xi Yue. Li Fu was skinned alive and had her bones removed, dying a tragic death. After death, she became a vengeful ghost in the Wangchuan River, refusing to drink Meng Po soup. She climbed the Cloud Ladder to the Nine Heavens to seek justice, but the immortals dismissed her because Hua Yue was the Chosen One. In despair, she returned to Wangchuan and became the Lord of Ghost Fiends, absorbing resentment qi and obtaining the Human Emperor Sword Banner to gain power and take revenge on those who wronged her.
