The fact that the past golden era is described in detail but only briefly glimpsed makes me want a prequel or more lore. The Dragon Language Contract, Mind King, Time Walker… those names sound epic.
The dog house being more luxurious than a normal person's house is a typical “rich people problems” detail, but it also makes the insult worse. It's not just any dog house – it's a fancy one for a pampered pet. Putting a human in that space shows how far the Gu family has dehumanized her.
The reunion with her mother (Qing Zhi Qiu) hit me right in the feels. The text says she hugged her mom and saw a 'cold corpse' in her mind's eye. That one line completely sells the trauma of her past life. The mom is suspicious at first, thinking she was bullied, which is such a classic motherly concern. But the moment Qing Jing proves the apocalypse is real using the Conzy assassination bet, the mom instantly switches gears. No denial, just pure support. "2 billion in cash, 12 billion in assets, let's start the liquidation." I love a competent parent in a novel. She’s not a damsel to save; she’s an ally and a powerhouse.
Xiao Mu is terrifying. The way he just stands there in the dark with murder vibes? And then he throws away his armor because she touched it? That’s so extra. I can already tell he’s the “I will kill you with no hesitation” type. But his nickname is “God Slayer” which sounds badass. I hope we get a chapter from his POV eventually.
The inner demon’s reaction when the sword gets renamed to “Fu Xi Sword” is hilarious. It’s like “well, whatever makes the divine venerable happy” through gritted teeth. And the heroine immediately deciding to go by Fu Xi from now on—good for her, leaving “Jiang Wu” behind.
The first chapter does a lot of heavy lifting without feeling rushed. We get Karl's past, his world, his power, his goal (title + money + breathing technique), and the Black City hook. Some books info-dump for pages, but here it's woven through actions—going to church, visiting the market, traveling to another world. The pacing is solid: slow burns in Siglo City, tension spikes in Black City.
