1 I have to say, the emotional whiplash between being “I will not suffer any injustice” and then “she’s a slow-paced, trauma survivor” is a bit confusing. Xie Fanxing seems too sharp to be naive, but the author keeps reminding us she suffered childhood trauma. Maybe that’s the point—she built this cool exterior to hide her vulnerabilities? That could be a realistic character trait if developed right. The revenge elements are executed early, which gives hope.
I have mixed feelings about the parents. On one hand, Lin Pojun and Cheng Qiuci are written as such flat caricatures of bad parenting that it strains belief. No real human would literally want their son dead for surviving a hostage situation. But on the other hand, it serves the story’s purpose of creating an irredeemable family for Lin Che to rebel against. They’re more plot devices than characters.
Mo Yao saving her at the end was such a classic “I hate you but I won’t let you die” moment. And then he immediately threatens to feed her to zombies if she doesn’t divorce him. That’s so on-brand. The divorce comment was hilarious though—she literally bribed him with it. And Yin Xuan’s observation that healing ability might change things? Ooh, foreshadowing.
The fight scenes (Lightning Strike training) are described well. You can imagine the arcs of lightning growing thicker and stronger. The progression from chanting to chantless in minutes was cool but unrealistic. Still, it's fantasy, so I'll accept it. The writers seem to enjoy showing off the magic system's flexibility. I'm curious if Lu Cang will learn other elements or stick to lightning. Also, Iz said he wanted to teach him skills to protect himself, but so far it's only offense. Will he learn defensive spells? Utility? I hope the training isn't one-note.
The dialogue feels natural for the setting and characters. Mrs. Chen's harsh, crude language contrasts with Sun Zhanxiang's innocent, caring tone. Ma Pozi's warm, motherly speech. Even Tang Zhi Ling's brief, refined words. Each voice is distinct, which helps bring the world to life.||️|The suspense about the baby's father is a good hook. Since the original owner never revealed it, and Shen Fei doesn't have full memory, it's a mystery for both the protagonist and the reader. I'm curious if it will become a major plot point or remain a background detail.
