Fu Jiamu's backstory about cooking for himself and eating instant noodles is clearly meant to tug at the heartstrings. And it works on the parents. But I'm skeptical because it's delivered with such perfect timing. It feels rehearsed. He knows how to play the sympathy card and he's using it to his full advantage. I don't trust his tragic backstory yet.
The pacing is a bit uneven though. We go from her being chased by creditors to casually selling jade for millions to suddenly having a time-traveling prince in her office. It felt rushed. I needed maybe one more scene of her struggling before the fantasy element kicked in. The emotional whiplash is real. Still, I'm hooked enough to keep reading.
The translation has some clunky parts, like “the man’s icy purple eyes swept over her neck” which is a bit purple prose. But overall, it’s readable and the story moves fast. I’d recommend this to anyone who likes transmigration, reverse harem, and apocalypse settings with a side of comedy. It’s not perfect but it’s fun.
