Overall, this is a solid start to a dark fantasy isekai. The reincarnation into a goblin trope is done with a fresh twist—focusing on the relationship with a reluctant mother and using a skill-stealing mechanic. The pacing is fast, the action is brutal, and the emotional core is surprisingly strong. I’m invested in seeing where Ye Yan’s hunger and his mother’s fear lead. Definitely want to keep reading.
The mutated syphilis twist was insane. I thought this was going to be a romance story, maybe with some drama, but full on body horror? The description of those pustules twitching under Zhu Jiajia's skin, the black pus, the rapid deterioration from stage one to stage three overnight. That's some serious sci-fi horror vibes. And then Zhou Peiyu somehow having antibodies in his blood from the drug trial? That's a crazy coincidence that makes me question if Dr. Yang's "Mei Li Ting" is more than just a vaccine.
2 The pacing of the revenge arcs is nice. Qiao Nian doesn't try to solve everything at once. She gets the kids back, she secures some food, she gets Li Rulan's clothes, and she sets a boundary with Cui Shi. Each little win builds to a bigger shift in power dynamics. It feels earned rather than rushing to a huge dramatic climax.
I really liked the way the system rewards are structured—kill beasts, get energy crystals, upgrade the Tree of Life, train more elves. It’s a satisfying loop, and it makes the grinding feel purposeful. But I’m a little worried it might turn into a pure numbers game later. Balance between story and stats is key in these litRPG-ish narratives, and so far the story hasn’t been overshadowed, but I’ll keep an eye on it.
The way Bal just casually puts a collar on Phia claiming it's for her protection feels uncomfortably convenient but also weirdly fitting for their dynamic. It sets up this master-slave aesthetic while actually being more like a reluctant partnership, and I'm kind of here for the tension that creates
The theme of agency is strong here. Wen Tiantian refuses to be a puppet in someone else's story. She takes control of her life, her engagement, and her reputation. She actively chooses to defend Chu Jin and shut down Fang Xuan yang. This resonates with me because it's empowering to see a female character not just react but drive the plot forward based on her own decisions.
The kindergarten registration details felt so authentic. Li Mai finally getting the confirmation message, feeling happy, and then Chengcheng's completely unenthusiastic response – that's so real. Kids can be so blasé about things parents stress over. And the museum scene! Chengcheng telling his mom her explanations are bad and downloading an app instead? That's a modern four-year-old who knows what he wants. The contrast between Li Mai, who just wants her son to have a normal, happy childhood, and Chengcheng, who's already a little intellectual, is both funny and endearing. He's clearly going to be a handful as he gets older.
Xi Yang’s reaction to being slapped around was frustrating. He’s described as stubborn inside, thinking “one-on-one I might win,” but then he just takes it without even trying to defend himself. I get that he’s outnumbered, but at least block or scream? Made me feel helpless as a reader.
Feng Suzhen finally being more than just a prize is great. She’s not just a beautiful face. She’s a master of musical martial arts. That’s a very unique and elegant power system. The idea of using a zither not just for music but for combat is fascinating. It gives her a lot of agency. She's not just being won; she's actively testing the winner. I want to see more of her abilities.
The system integration is honestly one of the weirder ones I’ve seen. No glowing screen or voice of god—he just crushes the magic core by accident, feels a cold rush, then a “ding” like a computer booting. The system literally says “data chaotic, merging with this world… modifications made to adapt.” It feels organic, not forced. And the fact that his name got changed from Pang Hong to Pang Feng? Small detail, but I’m curious if that matters later.
