I also like that Wu Yin is not overly weak or damsel-like. Even without powers, she manages to survive by her wits and her divination skills. She talks to strangers, bargains for food, and sleeps rough. She’s resilient. That makes her admirable. And when she does get a little power back (merit conversion), it feels like a step forward in her progress, not a handout.
1 Xiao Yu the maid is a hilarious addition. She's eight, acts like a kid, but is supposed to take care of Yang Nuo? Total role reversal. The scene where she's sleeping while Yang Nuo reads accounts is comedy gold. It shows that despite his genius, he's still basically a kid buying a friend. The author didn't make her a tool; she's a character with a personality.
Gu Lingyue's refusal to immediately accept Lu Zheng's terms says a lot about her character. She has dignity and pride. She'd rather risk going into the black mist than barter her body for survival. That integrity makes her more compelling as a potential love interest—if she ever compromises, it'll mean something.
I wonder if other players will also get systems or talents. The announcement mentioned talents awakening; maybe Ye Feng isn’t the only one. The Beautiful Country player might have something up his sleeve. The political aspects between nations could be explored more. Also what happens when Ye Feng returns to Earth? Government protection? Romance? The possibilities are exciting. I look forward to more. The story has a lot of potential, especially with the Taotie lore and food theme.
The dialogue between Zeng Xing and Xu Jia at night trying to get the money back felt like filler. “We’ll pretend Jiazi has a stomachache”? You’re telling me a teacher lets them out that easily with all the strict supervision they mentioned? It undercut the whole “nobody can leave dorm” rule established earlier.
