A messenger sent by Master Zhou to collect the debt from Lu Yao at the very beginning of the story. He appears during Wang Xuan’s daze, demanding repayment and threatening that Lu Yao must become Zhou’s concubine if the money is not returned within three days. He is addressed by Lu Yao as “Brother Sun” when she pleads for leniency. He does not appear again after the initial scene, but his arrival sets off the plot of debt crisis. He represents the oppressive mechanisms of Zhou’s household.
