Also called Uncle Chen, a middle‑aged hunter from the same village. He was former hunting partners with Wang Xuan’s father and is friendly to the Wang family. He rescued Wang Xuan when the latter was attacked by a bear in the mountains. After Wang Xuan wakes up, Chen Shan warns him to be careful of Shi Yong’s schemes. He is currently injured from a past bear hunt but still cares about the village. When Wang Xuan passes his field, they have a short conversation about his health and the debt. Chen Shan is one of the few allies Wang Xuan has in the village.
