The Kind Auntie is a vendor at the morning market who sells fried sugar cakes and fermented corn porridge. She notices Ya Ya shivering by her stall and invites her to warm up, gives her a free bowl of porridge, and later gives her a thermos of porridge, meat buns, steamed buns, and fried sugar cakes to take home. She assumes Ya Ya is a poor orphan and treats her with kindness, even letting her help with small tasks. She offers to escort Ya Ya home but is politely refused.
